About the book:

How far would you go to save the ones you love?

The first book in a gripping new crime series featuring DCI Anna Tate.

When nine children are snatched from a nursery school in South London, their distressed parents have no idea if they will ever see them again. The community in the surrounding area in shock. How could this happen right under their noses? No one in the quiet suburban street saw anything – or at least that's what they're saying.

But DCI Anna Tate knows that nothing is impossible, and she also knows that time is quickly running out. It’s unclear if the kidnappers are desperate for money or set on revenge, but the ransom is going up by £1million daily. And they know that one little boy in particular is fighting for his life.

It’s one of the most disturbing cases DCI Anna Tate has ever worked on – not only because nine children are being held hostage, but because she’s pretty sure that someone close to them is lying…

My thoughts:

In Safe Hands is the first book in a new series which follows DCI Anna Tate as she tries to solve distressing cases.

The story begins with the horrifying kidnapping of 9 children from a nursery. From the moment the children are kidnapped, Carter instils the sense of terror and urgency in the reader as you can feel the tension building within the story. Carter's writing completely hooks you and draws you in to the story as you follow Tate's chase to find the 9 missing children.

Although it was easy to work out who the kidnappers were early on, Carter continues to hold the suspense as the outcome of the investigation remains difficult to predict. As the story unfolds I could feel the tension building, and I found myself in a struggle... wanting to keep reading vs. needing to put the book down to escape the tension for a moment!

Carter creates further depth in the story when you discover that DCI Tate has herself lost a child through abduction. This makes the case to find these children even more personal to Tate, who finds her emotions getting mixed up when difficult choices need to be made.

In Safe Hands is a story full of tension, that hooks the reader in right from the first page. With certain mysteries not being solved in the first novel, it definitely begs for the next book in the series to hurry up so we can continue to follow DCI Tate's story. I, for one, already have it added to my TBR list! #amwaiting

I would give this book;
